Our Story

Why Borona Bistró Exists

We design furniture and decor for the home you actually live in — considered, not curated for show.

From a Rented Apartment to a Workshop in Porto

Our first apartment together had good light and terrible furniture. We spent a year splitting the difference between flat-pack pieces that wobbled within a season and designer showrooms where a single dining table cost more than our security deposit — and neither one felt like a place we actually wanted to invite people into. We kept a running note of what we actually wanted: solid wood, warm color, and prices that didn't require a bonus check.

So we started flying to Porto and Lisbon on weekends, meeting the same family workshops that have supplied European hotels and neighborhood cafés for generations — the kind of place our name comes from. These are workshops that still hand-finish ceramics and cut dovetail joints by eye, not by machine. We cut out the showroom markup by working with them directly, which is why a solid oak dining table costs what it should instead of what a brand name says it should.

We still visit every workshop in person before we carry a single piece, and we still answer the emails ourselves when someone asks whether a finish will work in their space. Furniture this well made shouldn't need a marketing department to explain it.

How We Started

Solid Materials Only

No MDF, no laminate — every piece is kiln-dried hardwood, natural stone, or hand-loomed textile.

Direct From Workshop

We work with the same family-run ateliers for years, cutting distributors out so quality goes up, not price.

White-Glove Delivery

Large furniture arrives assembled, unwrapped, and placed exactly where you want it — packaging leaves with us.

Real Warranty

Five years on every frame and joint, honored by a person who answers the phone, not a chatbot.
